Work Begins on Tobey Hospital Expansion

Construction has begun on the $25 million expansion of Tobey Hospital’s emergency room, with completion expected by fall 2021. The project will quadruple the department’s size to 25,000 square feet, adding 27 treatment rooms, including six specialized for mental health and substance abuse care, and accommodating up to 40,000 patients annually. Designed to honor the demolished 1825 Tobey Homestead, the new facility will feature architectural elements like brick, stone, and columns, along with a visitor-friendly Tobey Café showcasing the family’s history. This much-needed expansion addresses the growing demands of Greater Wareham residents and reflects a significant investment in the community’s healthcare infrastructure.
