Belmont Middle and High School $256 Million Renovation Completed
The $256 million renovation and construction of Belmont Middle and High School has been completed, creating a state-of-the-art, 451,000-square-foot facility for grades 7–12. Managed by Skanska, the phased project included demolishing the old high school, constructing a new four-story building, and renovating the field house, gymnasium, and swimming pool. Designed by Perkins & Will and CHA Consulting, the project prioritized sustainability with 283 geothermal wells, rooftop solar panels providing a third of the building’s energy, and a goal of achieving LEED Gold certification. Completed on time and within budget despite pandemic challenges, the fossil fuel-free campus features advanced academic, science, and media facilities, new dining areas, and upgraded sports amenities, setting a benchmark for sustainable school construction in Massachusetts.
